Growing up as an only child, I became pretty accustomed to being alone. Every once in a while it becomes hard to find this time with myself, and I feel the frustrations build up. That’s when its time to hop on the bike, or in the van and take a little solo journey. Not to any place in particular or with any agenda in mind. The purpose is simply to just be alone.
I think that this comfort in solitude is what attracts me to the medium of photography. To become a photographer is an intentional act to isolate yourself from the world. A declaration to become its observer and to forfeit one’s stance as a participant, to literally place a sheet of glass between you and your surroundings.
It does not take long though in solitude to become lonely, to realize how much other people play a part in your life. Its a humbling experience to feel how much others affect your well-being. I guess its these realizations that attract me to being alone. We all need to do it every once in a while.

Why do guys like reptiles and girls hate them? It must be a lingering childhood infatuation with dinosaurs. My favorite was the Brontosaurus. Its size was unmatched and made the ground shake every time it took a step, and despite its size it harmed nobody. It was a vegetarian and kicked ass only when it needed to. I aspire to be more like the Brontosaurus.
I recently bought a Contax G1 to shoot my 35mm stuff. I haven’t used the Yashica T4 in a while, which is what I shot these on. Now that I’m used to the sharpness of the Contax, I can’t stand how fuzzy the T4 shots look. I almost feel like I’m looking at a Holga shot. It could also be the arc on the negative when I scanned them. They weren’t laying very flat for me. Its really hard to get the color casts out too, but I do think the vignette adds a nice touch though.
